Fine China And Your Waistline
Making your daily eating habits a satisfying experience
Marquette, MI – Mercedes Turino share some insights on how to break mindless eating habits and create a more satisfying dining experience for your meals.
When is the last time that you used your fancy plates? You know, the ones that aren’t dishwasher safe. The ones that spend 99% of their life tucked away in a cabinet. Your fine china may be the missing link between you and your favorite pair of skinny jeans.
If you’re like most people, you eat breakfast with a fork in one hand and your iPhone in the other; your lunch is eaten haphazardly in front of your computer, and by the time you get home, exhausted and hangry (hungry + angry), you end up eating on a paper plate to save the hassle of doing dishes. But here’s the thing: paper plates lead to mindless eating and while your belly winds up full, you’re left feeling empty. Feeling empty increases the chances that you’ll find yourself in self-sabotage mode and elbow deep in a bag of potato chips.
Connecting with yourself during meal times means that you’ll enjoy your food. I mean, REALY enjoy it. By staying present, you’ll be more aware of when you’re feeling full and be less likely to over eat. Here are my super simple tips to make eating an experience that fills you up physically and emotionally.
6 Simple Tips To Improve Your Eating Experience:
1. Use your favorite fancy plates. Make your plate pretty and aesthetically appealing. The extra 5 minutes it takes to wash them by hand will be well worth it when you can still breathe after zipping up your favorite skinny jeans!
2. Light the candles. Set the mood for a relaxed meal.
3. Limit distractions. No TV, no smart phone. Just you and your beautiful plate of food.
4. Put your fork down between bites. Chew your food. Taste your food. Enjoy your food.
5. Eat together. Sharing a meal with friends and family improves the experience. It creates community and emotional nourishment.
6. Spend a couple minutes thinking about where your food came from. Whose hands helped it to grow? Think about all the experiences that took place to bring this food to your plate.
