Bowling Green Dominates NMU Hockey
Marquette MI- It was a long night for NMU hockey. Saturday December 6th NMU hockey was shut out by Bowling Green State University (BGSU). NMU’s boys where physically on the ice but never seemed to be in the game, never finding their normal team coordination and aggression.
For most of the first period both teams seemed to find themselves in a sloppy unorganized state. BGSU’s Ben Murphy found the back of the net late in the period putting BGSU ahead by one.
The combination of the goal and the first intermission seemed to be what BGSU needed to get their heads into the game. They slowly began to out skate NMU. Though NMU managed 10 shots on goal to BGSU’s 9 shot, NMU never managed to get the puck past goaltender Chris Nell. BGSU managed to score twice during the 2nd period. Both goals where made by Pierre-Luc Mercier.
The third period was painful for NMU’s fans and players alike. Both teams let their emotions get the better of them earning a total of 11 penalties between the two of them. Even with the high emotions BGSU managed to out shoot NMU 12 to 6. Despite the drastic difference with shots on goal NMU’s goal tender Mathias Dahlstrom managed to block 10 of them. Both of BGSU’s goals where power play goals made by Adam Berkle and Ben Murphy.
The final score was NMU 0 BGSU 5
