Hockey and Costumes
Three of my favorite things in late October are Costumes, candy, and hockey. On October 31st many hockey fans and myself got to experience all three at the Berry Events Center during NMU hockey’s first home game of the season against the University of Alabama-Huntsvile (UAH).
NMU celebrated the holiday by having a best costume contest and a parade of contestants during the first intermission. Fans of all ages dressed in their costumes got to walk from 1 end of the rink to the other.
From the start of the game the teams came onto the ice determined to win. The first period was filled with lots of action and fierce battling for the puck. Many shots where taken on goal but both team’s goaltenders decided they were blast walls and nothing was getting through, ending the first period 0-0.
01:04 minute into the second period NMU’s Jake Baker blasted through UAH’s wall putting them on the board. At 16:51 into the game UAH took advantage of a bad pass allowing Matt Salhany to score tying the game 1-1.
Third period the goaltenders rebuilt their blast walls stopping everything that came near them. The score remanded tied sending the game into overtime.
During overtime both teams attacked the nets but where unable to get a puck in.
Final score 1-1.
