Hockey Season is Here!
HOCKEY ON THIRD PARADE KICKS OFF NEW SEASON
Marquette, MI – Hockey enthusiasits of all ages came out Thursday, September 18, 2014 for the 5th annual parade down Third Street in Marquette to celebrate the spirit of hockey.
Players of all ages spent the weekend playing the sport they love best at Lakeview Arena as a new season of competition begins. From kids to “old-timers” (players 50+) everyone laced up their skates and took to the ice.
The game of ice hockey has been a local favorite in Marquette for generations continuing a longstanding tradition passed down from Canada where the sport (as it is known today) was originated in the late 1880’s. Even since it’s roots about 4,000 years ago when the game originated on grass the sport has been known for it’s fierce and competitive energy. That spirit is alive an well today on ice rinks across the U.P. and world at large.
We’re fortunate here in Marquette to have a mulititude of quality local hockey leagues with games to attend throughout the year. Come out for some of the action to show your support and enjoy some great hockey in Marquette this season.
