Movie grown out of the UP
Two Native Yoopers return with plans for producing a full-length film in their hometown!
Seth Anderson and his brother Nathan grew up in Iron Mountain and have been more than excited to come back and film their first feature length film; “Northstar”. The brothers and Producer Jason Hagen are currently looking for funding for their film. They hope to start filming the majority of the film in January 2015.
The project started out as an idea for a short film in 2003, but has since grown into a script for a full-length film. The script seems to have formed itself out of the Upper Peninsula and the isolation that much of the area undergoes.
In an email, Seth Anderson described the movie:
“’Northstar’ is set in a post-apocalyptic wilderness where a mysterious cataclysm has wiped out most of the population in a single day. The story picks up a few years after this event, and follows a group of survivors that have managed to eke out an existence.”
The team hopes to showcase the beauty of the Upper Peninsula and raise awareness of the area. They will be filming in Iron Mountain and surrounding areas. They will be incorporating a bit of the town and at the old air force base, KI Sawyer near Gwinn.
They came to Iron Mountain to speak about the film back in December and many people were excited. Some found it inspirational to see people coming back to the area, and were more than happy to offer up help. Their plan is to involve as much of the community as possible.
They will be coming to Marquette late summer or early fall, the date is still to be announced.
