With summer now behind us the Lake Superior Youth Theatre has moved it’s latest show to the larger stage of Kaufman auditorium for this weekend’s production of the Classic Music Man broadway show.  This show scales down the length of the original show cutting out enough time to make it easy to sit through for young audiences.  MUSIC MAN JR. WILL BE A GREAT SHOW TO TAKE THE KIDS with a running time of about an hour!

In fact with 62 kids involved in the production your children likely already know someone who is onstage or working behind the scenes.  From set design, choreography, costuming, make-up, performing and everything in between, the kids have a hand in every facet of the production.

Director Nikke Nason and assistant Stage Director Natalie Berger have done a fantastic job of facilitating the kids to put together a quality musical performance. With the additional talents of  Jill Grundstrom, Mallory Grugin, and Aspen Talsma in choreography and Jeff Bruning in vocal Direction this theatrical journey has given the kids an opportunity to participate in a fun and  amazing learning experience as well.

To top it off all this was done in just 6 weeks! A challenge for any production this large let alone one whose entire cast is aged 13 – 4 years old.

A little bit about the story:

Music Man Jr. follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill (played by Will Guter) as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize. The catch? He doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian (played by Megan Ludwig), whose belief in Harold’s powers just might help him succeed in the end in spite of himself. Funny, warm, romantic and touching, “The Music Man Jr.” is family entertainment at its best– a bold, brassy show that will have the whole town atwitter!
