NMU Defeats LEC In Basketball

Wildcats Have Hot Weekend in Basketball

NMU men’s and women’s basketball teams faced off against Lake Erie College (LEC) Storms at the Berry Events Center on Saturday January 10, 2015.

NMU’s lady cats stepped onto the court and dominated the game. NMU’s Bre Gaspervich put the first points on the board giving NMU the lead. They held that lead throughout the entire game. At the end of the first half the score was NMU 41 Lake Erie 21. The final score was NMU 72 Lake Erie 47.

The men’s game had all the fans sitting on the edge of their seats. At 18:57 of the first half LEC’s Sean Howard scored the first two points starting a tug-a-war over the score board. At 10:33 NMU’s Alex Sorenson made a basket giving the team the lead that they would hold for the rest of the half. The first half ended with NMU 22. LEC 17.

At the second half the game continued to remain close with NMU holding the lead. At 09:57 in the half LEC’s Trey Howard tied the score 37-37. The lead continued to bounce back and forth till 04:44 left on the clock. NMU’s Chavis Mattison made a free throw putting NMU on the path to victory with a 42-41 lead. NMU would hold that lead for the rest of the game. The final score was NMU 62. LEC 50.

When I was a little girl my parents taught me how to use a camera. I spent my photographic childhood in 4-H taking photos so I could enter them into the yearly county fair and have them judged. I have a BFA in photography from Northern Michigan University. My favorite photographic subjects are sports and nature.
