NMU vs. Bowling Green State
Marquette MI- Friday December 5, 2014 NMU had their first of two games against the Bowling Green State University (BGSU) at the Barry Event Center. The first two periods where fast-paced with both teams attacking the nets and giving both goalies a good work out.
NMU’s Shane Sooth took advantage of a power play and put the first point on the board. BGSU’s Ben Greiner’s response was to show off and score two consecutive goals. With only a few minutes left in the period NMU’s Gerard Hanson made a goal to tie the game at 2-2.
A little over a minute into the second period BGSU’s Dajon Mingo scored taking the leaded. NMU regrouped and Brock Maschmeyer put the puck into the net tying the game 3-3. BGSU’s last two goals of the game where scored by Brandon Hawkins giving the team a 5-3 lead. NMU’s Sami Salminen was able to close the deficit by 1. The second period came to a close NMU 4 BGSU 5.
BGSU held the lead till late into the third period. NMU’s Brock Maschmeyer made his second goal of the game tying the score 5-5, sending the game into overtime. Both teams fought heard in overtime but where unable to score. The final score was 5-5.
NMU and BGSU have their second game tomorrow December 6th in the Barry Event Center at 7:00pm. If you are looking for something fun to do tomorrow night you mite consider going to the game.
