December 18, 2013, Marquette, MI – There’s a new theatrical group in town making their big debut at the Kaufman Auditorium with a musical adaptation of the beloved holiday classic A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.  The Kaufman Players present Scrooge this week and have crafted an adaptation that is truly a must see for the Christmas season!

When asked why they decided to make their debut with this holiday classic director Marty Martello said the decision was inspired by public demand as the show had not been performed locally for five years since Forest Roberts Theatre stopped putting it on in 2008.

We were able to get a sneak preview of the production during their dress rehearsal Tuesday night and were so pleased by the quality of the music and talent presented by the troupe. The show flowed beautifully without a dull moment keeping us engaged all the way through. In fact, although we had only planned to stay through the first few scenes we stayed until the close because we couldn’t tear ourselves away!

“Scrooge” features local talents of all ages including many seasoned performers returning to the stage to play the beloved characters.  We had a chance to speak with director Marty Martello during the rehearsal to find out a little bit about who the Kaufman Players are and what more we can expect from them in the future.

The Kaufman Players are planning to feature two to three productions throughout the winter season giving opportunity to performers and theatre enthusiasts alike to enjoy more high quality entertainment during the dark cold months. Scrooge director Marty Martello promises another quality performance for the spring when they put on a production of “Chicago!”

Another highlight of this troupe is that they plan to dedicate their focus on adults providing an outlet for seasoned talents and filling a niche that has been lacking in the local community.  Until now, adult actors have had little opportunities to perform outside of supportive roles in the summertime children’s theatre groups and NMU productions.

The Kaufman Players will be based in the Kaufman Auditorium at 611 N. Front St. in Marquette. Their opening night for “Scrooge” kicks off  on Thursday December 19th at 7pm and runs each evening at the same time through Saturday the 21st.  They will also have a 1pm matinee on Saturday.

You can purchase tickets at any NMU EZ Outlet or call 227-1032 for more ticket info.
